Shoulder Complex I Flashcards
(41 cards)
What are the two main ligament groups of the SCJ and what do they check?
- Anterior/posterior ligaments - check anterior/posterior translation
- Interclavicular ligaments - check clavicular depression
What are the joints involved in shoulder elevation?
SCJ, GHJ, ACJ, STJ, T/S joint, costovertebral joint, costochondral joint, and costotransverse joint
What is a third ligament of the SCJ?
Costoclavicular ligament
What does the costoclavicular ligament limit and contribute to?
Limits elevation and contributes to inferior gliding of the clavicle
What is the shape of the SCJ joint?
Saddle - plane synovial
What motions in the frontal plane does the SCJ allow?
Elevation (48 degrees) and depression (10 degrees)
What motions in the transverse plane does the SCJ allow?
Protraction (20 degrees) and retraction (30 degrees)
What motions in the sagittal plane does the SCJ allow?
Posterior rotation (50 degrees) and anterior rotation (<10 degrees)
What are the four ligaments of the ACJ?
- Superior/inferior ligaments
- Coracoclavicular ligament
- Coracoacromial ligament
What does the superior ligament of the ACJ check?
Distal clavicle from moving posteriorly
What are the two CC ligaments?
- Conoid
2. Trapezoid
Which CC ligament is more medially?
Conoid
What are the functions of the conoid ligament?
- Resists distal clavicular superior motion
- Limits UR
- Posteriorly rotates clavicle
What are the functions of the trapezoid ligament?
- Limits posterior displacement of clavicle
- Limits UR
- Posteriorly rotates clavicle
Which ligament is the roof for the GHJ?
Coracoacromial ligament
What is the function of the CA ligament?
Protects subacromial bursa and RTC - more apt to get impingement syndrome if ligament is tight
How many motions occur at the ACJ?
3
What are the three motions that occur at the ACJ?
- Anterior/posterior tilting - 20 to 40 degrees
- UR/DR - 30 degrees
- IR/ER - 30 degrees
What is the position of the STJ?
Frontal plane - 30 to 45 degrees
Anterior tilt - 10 to 15 degrees
UR - 10 degrees
What two joints allow for UR?
ACJ and STJ
What is scapular plane?
Plane in which the scapula lies - 30 to 45 degrees
What motion does the STJ allow?
UR - 60 degrees
Where does elevation/depression occur?
SCJ
Where does protraction/retraction occur?
SCJ
