SHOULDER MUSCLE Flashcards
(39 cards)
Which muscles make up the rotator cuff?
Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, Subscapularis.
What is the function of the rotator cuff muscles?
Stabilize the shoulder, rotate the humerus, prevent dislocation.
What is the mnemonic for the rotator cuff muscles?
SITS on the shoulder.
Where does the supraspinatus muscle originate?
Supraspinous fossa of the scapula.
Where does the supraspinatus insert?
Greater tubercle of the humerus.
What nerve innervates the supraspinatus?
Suprascapular nerve (C4-C6).
What is the action of the supraspinatus?
Initiates abduction of the arm to 15 degrees.
Where does the infraspinatus originate?
Infraspinous fossa of the scapula.
Where does the infraspinatus insert?
Greater tubercle of the humerus.
What nerve innervates the infraspinatus?
Suprascapular nerve (C5-C6).
What is the action of the infraspinatus?
External rotation of the arm.
Where does the teres minor originate?
Lateral border of the scapula.
Where does the teres minor insert?
Greater tubercle of the humerus.
What nerve innervates the teres minor?
Axillary nerve (C5-C6).
What is the action of the teres minor?
External rotation and adduction of the arm.
Where does the subscapularis originate?
Subscapular fossa of the scapula.
Where does the subscapularis insert?
Lesser tubercle of the humerus.
What nerve innervates the subscapularis?
Upper and lower subscapular nerves (C5-C7).
What is the action of the subscapularis?
Internal rotation of the arm and stabilization of the humeral head.
Where does the deltoid muscle originate?
Spine of the scapula, acromion, clavicle.
Where does the deltoid insert?
Deltoid tuberosity of the humerus.
What is the function of the deltoid (acromial part)?
Abducts the arm.
What is the function of the deltoid (clavicular part)?
Internally rotates the arm.
What is the function of the deltoid (spinal part)?
Externally rotates the arm.
