Skills of inquiry Flashcards
Skills of Inquiry (6 cards)
What are the types of questions?
Closed, open, leading, controlling, probing, reflecting, what if.
Compare between negative and positive feedback.
Negative focuses on what you did wrong/don’t have, and positive focuses on what is good.
How to turn negative feedback into positive?
Using ‘how to’.
What are the vital skills of inquiry?
Paying attention, treating the speaker equally, cultivating ease, encouraging, asking quality questions, rationing information, giving positive feedback.
What is interrupting?
A clear sign of poor listening; stemming from the internal urge to fill in silences and underlying assumptions made about the speaker and their ideas.
What is cultivating ease?
Good thinking thrives in relaxed environments, allowing deeper inquiry and more idea generation. The fact that ease is laziness is a misconception.
