Three types of precursor legions for melanoma:

A
  • Congenital nevi- present at birth
  • Dysplastic nevi- become dysplastic after puberty
  • lentigo maligna- looks like a freckle grows slowly and becomes mottled. Seen on side of face that has more sun exposure.

Arise from melanocytes in deepest epidermal layer

• develop where there is pigment or pre existing nevi.

Flat scaly about 2cm
