SLE Flashcards
(7 cards)
what type of hypersensitivity reaction is SLE
type 3 –> immune complex mediated
most common cardiac manifesstation of SLE
pericarditis
also myocarditis
SLE antibodies
99% ANA positive - but low specificity
highly specific
- anti-dsDNA
- anti-smith
SLE blood count findings
anaemia - of chronic disease or haemolytic
lymphopenia
thrombocytopenia - due to immune mediated destructions
disease monitoring in SLE
inflam markers
- ESR generally used
- CRP normal in active disease - if raised think infection
complement levels = low if active disease
anti-dsDNA antibodies - but not present in all patients
complement levels in SLE
(C3, C4)
low during active disease !
-> formation of complexes leads to consumption of complement
SLE management
hydroxychloroquine !!!
- NSAIDs
- sun-block
if organ involement - consider prednisolone, cyclophosphamide
