Q

What is the relationship between sleep apnea and REM cycles?

A

During periods of REM, you lose all muscle tone, so if you have sleep apnea, you are most prone to suffocation during these REM cylces. Even more, since REM cycles get progressively longer as the night goes on, you are most prone to suffocation right before you wake up
