simulation heuristic
the tendency to judge the likelihood of an event by the ease with which you can imagine it
anchoring and adjustment
when estimating the likelihood of an event, ppl use a starting point (anchor) and make adjustments up and down from that point
confirmation bias
tendency to notice information that confirms your beliefs and ignore information that goes against it
illusory correlation
people overestimate the link between variables they are related only a little or not at all
base rate fallacy
the tendency to ignore information about most people to be influenced by distinctive features of the case being studied
false consensus effect
people tend to overestimate the number of people who share their beliefs
false uniqueness effect
people tend to underestimate the number of people who share their most prized characteristics

once the mind draws a conclusion, it is reluctant to change it unless overwhelming information against it is given
