Social Cognitive Theory Flashcards
(9 cards)
Social Cognitive Theory
what are the key factors of social cognitive theory
- vicarious reinforcement
- indentification
- self-efficacy
Social Cognitive Theory
describe vicarious reinforcement
watching someone do something & and basing future action on the result
* if they’re punished it would lead to inhibitory effects
* if they’re rewared it would lead to disinhibitory effects
Social Cognitive Theory
decsribe indentification
if you strongly identify with a model, learning is more likely to occur
Social Cognitive Theory
describe self-efficacy
you have to believe you can actually perform a behavior to repeat it
Social Cognitive Theory
We’re most likey to model behavior we see in the media…..
- if there is sufficent vicarious reinforcement
- based on percieved punishment and reward
- and if we identify with the model AND have sufficient self-efficacy
Social Cognitive Theory
What is the 4 step modeling process?
- attention (focusing on model)
- retention (gathering info in memory)
- motor reporduction ( memory –> action)
- motivation (performance based on reinforcement)
Social Cognitive Theory
If a child sees their sibling get rewarded for doing homework and then does their own, this is an example of:
vicarious reinforcement
Social Cognitive Theory
What concept explains a person’s belief in their ability to succeed at a task?
self-efficacy
Social Cognitive Theory
what must happen before someone copies behavior
they much watch it, remember it, be able to do it, and want to do it
