Social Learning Theory Flashcards
(10 cards)
Define the social learning theory
- we can also learn indirectly through observation and imitation of others
Define imitation
- copying the behaviours of others
Modelling
Imitating the behaviour of a role model. The process of learning through imitation - (learn the behaviour themselves)
Identification
When an observer associates themselves with a role model and wants to be like that role model
Vicarious reinforcement
Reinforcement that is not directly experienced but occurs through observing someone else being reinforced for a behaviour
Mediational processes order
- Attention
- Retention
- Reproduction
- Motivation
Define attention
We must actually notice the behaviour taking place
Define retention
We have to be able to recall and remember the behiour we see taking place.
There needs to be a memory to refer to
Define reproduction
We have to possess the ability to recreate it
If its physically hard it influences our decisions to repeat it or not
Define motivation
The rewards and punishment that follow a behaviour will be considered by the observer
If perceived rewards outweigh cost (if any) behaviour is more likely to be imitated
