Marxists argue that education helps to reproduce class inequality and legitamise class inequality

The myth of meritocracy is the idea that to achieve a high status doesnt require hard work, but instead is due to someones background and family ties.

The correspondence priciple is the idea that the norms and values placed in school mirror the norms and values in non-skilled manual labour work.

What did Paul Willis’ research find
Paul Willis studied a group of WC boys in school. He found that they developed lots counter cultures, such as drinking, smoking etc. Willis concluded that these WC boys were helping capitalism. By underperforming in schools, they would then have to go to manual labour jobs whuch are comtrolled bt the capitalist class.
