Software Flashcards
(37 cards)
Explain what antivirus software is used for
Antivirus software is primarily used to detect, prevent, and remove malicious software, commonly known as malware
Define communications software
Communication software is the loose group of applications that allow users to share files, text
and video or audio messages over an internet connection.
Why does communication software make it easier for people to communicate
Since it is internet based, it is easier to access than traditional communication tools.
It can be accessed on smartphones as well as laptops and desktop computers
Explain what a compatibility issue is
Compatibility issues come up when users are using the same type of software for a task, such as word processors, that cannot communicate with each other. This could be due to a difference in their versions or that they are made by different companies.
Describe what backwards compatibility is
Backwards compatibility is the ability of newer software to interact with files (or programs or
systems) made with older versions of that software.
Why are more software companies offering subscription services for their products
To make sure that software stays up to date and that users have access to the most recent
features and fixes
Elaborate on the main difference between buying software and using a subscription service
When you purchase software, like Microsoft Office 2016, you own your copy of that software.
Subscription based software does not actually belong to you, it is still the property of the company that
created it.
What are accessibility settings?
series of special settings and functions to make using a computer easier for physically challenged users
How do you access the acccesibiltity features on windows 10
Click on the Windows icon, search for CONTROL PANEL and click on EASE OF ACCESS
Why is it important to design websites with accessibility in mind
Screen readers can struggle with interpreting websites that have not been designed for visually
impaired readers. Since websites and web pages are mostly designed as a visual experience, users who
cannot see these visual elements struggle to interact with the sites.
Four ways in which website developers can make their websites more accessible
Give links and buttons descriptive labels (saying ‘click here to sign up’ instead of just ‘click here’).
Give images and graphics good descriptions and ALT-TEXT.
Use headings to organise the content on a website’s pages.
Use descriptive titles for pages.
Explain what a cloud based application is
Cloud-based applications are any applications that are accessed using an internet connection
instead of being stored in a device’s storage
List the steps taken to access Google Drive and open a spreadsheet
To access Google Docs, you will need to go to Google Drive. You can do this by clicking on this
icon in your Gmail account, followed by clicking on Google Drive.
Alternatively, you can visit https://drive.google.com.
Once you are in your Google Drive account, click on New.
Click on Google Sheets and choose Blank Template to get started
Two advantages Google Docs has over Microsoft Word
The software is always up to date and does not require you to download or install anything.
You can access your documents anywhere in the world as long as you have internet access and access to your Google account
Explain how your data can be potentially lost when using cloud storage
Online storage is vulnerable to attacks (hacking) and distribution.
Advantages of cloud based storage
Allows you to access your information anywhere
Frees up physical storage space on storage devices
Data stored online can be shared more easily
What is software
Software is the programs that contain the instructions you use to tell the computer what you want it to do
Application software
Allows you to perform tasks on the computer, for example playing music or games and creating presentations, spreadsheet and documents
System software
Controls and manages the operations of the computer
How does system software manage the computer and the flow of data and information
By translating instructions from the software to the hardware
By sending the right instructions to the right hardware to complete the task
By checking the condition of the hardware and software
Types of application software
