Spinal Cord Flashcards
what are ascending tracts
deliver sensory information to the brain
what is a descending tract
delivers motor information to the muscles from the brain
what are the three major sensory tracts
posterior column tract (dorsal column), spinothalamic tract, spinocerebellar tract
what is a first order neuron
the cell body is in the dorsal or cranial root ganglion
delivers sensations to CNS
what is a second order neuron
an interneuron within the cell body in the spinal cord or brain
what is a third order neuron
transmits info from the thalamus to the cerebral cortex
what does the dorsal column consist of
fasciculus gracilis ad fasciculus cuneatus
what does the spinothalamic tract transmit
pain temp
what does the spinocerebellar tract transmit
proprioception
what are the two major motor tracts
corticospinal tract and subconcious tract
what motor information does the corticospinal tract transmit
conscious control of skeletal muscles
what motor information does the subconcious tract transmit
regulation of balance, muscle tone, eyes, hand, upperlimb position
what tracts are part of the subconcious motor tracts
vestibulospinal tract
tectospinal tract
reticulospinal tracts
rubrospinal tracts
what does the vestibulospinal tract do
info from the inner ear to monitor position of the head. responds by altering muscle tone, neck muscle contraction and limbs for posture and balance
what tracts are part of the corticospinal tracts
corticobulbar tracts
lateral and anterior corticospinal tracts
what does the lateral and anterior corticospinal tracts
concious control of skeletal muscle
what does the corticobulbar tract do
concious control over eye jaw and face muscles
what does the tectospinal tract do
info to the head and neck and upper limbs responding to bright and sudden movements and loud noises
what does the tectum area consist of
superior and inferior colliculi
what does the superior colloculi receive
visual information
what does the inferior colliculi receive
auditory information
what does the reticulospinal tract do
send info to cause eye movements and activate respiratory muscles
what does the rubrospinal tract do
send information to the flexor and extensor muscles
what does the thalamus do in relation to motor control
controls reflexes with visual and auditory stimuli
