Sport And Nutrition Four Flashcards
To Be Able To Define The Roles Of Specific Body Parts (6 cards)
Use Aerobic Respiration to describe different Fitness types.
Endurance Athletes rely on Aerobic Respiration because it provides a steady supply of energy over a long time. The body efficiently uses Oxygen to break down Glucose, which prevents rapid fatigue. Long Distance Runners have excellent Aerobic Respiration.
Use Anaerobic Respiration to describe different Fitness Types.
Anaerobic Respiration kicks in during intense efforts when the body can’t supply Oxygen fast enough. It provides quick bursts of energy but leads to Lactic Acid build up, which causes fatigue. Sprinters and Short Distance Runners have excellent Anaerobic Respiration.
Explain how Heart and Breathing Rate will change during Exercise.
Heart Rate increases during Exercise to pump more blood to the muscles. Breathing Rate increases during Exercise to take in more Oxygen and get rid of more Carbon Dioxide.
Describe the different roles and structures of Arteries.
Arteries carry blood away from the Heart, they have thick walls, and they are Elastic and Muscular.
Describe the different roles and structures of Veins.
Veins carry blood towards the Heart, they have thin walls, and they have valves present.
Describe the different roles and structures of Capillaries.
Capillaries carry blood between Arteries and Veins, they have very thin walls (One Cell Thick).
