The Living World Flashcards
To Be Able To Explain What Different Organisms Do And The Characteristics Of Plants (8 cards)
Describe the different levels within the Animal Kingdom.
The different levels within the Animal Kingdom are Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.
Why do new Organisms need to be Classified?
New Organisms need to be Classified as it provides useful information about its evolutionary history and which other organisms are related to it.
Analyse and Evaluate the problems with Classification.
Although Classification is a very useful technique there are various problems with it such as Data Quality, Model Complexity, and Evaluation.
Contrast Plant and Animal Cells.
Plant Cells have a Cell Wall and Animal Cells don’t, Plant Cells have Chloroplasts and Animal Cells don’t, Plant Cells have Large Central Vacuoles and Animal Cells have Small Multiple Vacuoles, Plant Cells are usually Rectangular and Animal Cells are usually Rounded.
Explain why Plants are called Producers.
Plants are called Producers because they make their own food through a process called photosynthesis.
What is the word equation for Photosynthesis?
The word equation for Photosynthesis is: Carbon Dioxide + Water -> Light Energy + Chlorophyll -> Glucose + Oxygen.
What are the differences between Monocot and Dicot Plants?
The differences between Monocot and Dicot Plants are that Monocot Plants have Parallel Veins and Dicot Plants have Net-Like Veins, Monocot Plants usually have Leaves in multiples of three whereas Dicot Plants usually have leaves in multiples of four or five, Monocot Plants have one Cotyledon and Dicot Plants have two Cotyledons.
What are some of the major uses of Fungi?
Fungi has many major uses such as a food source in food production, Fungi is in the production of antibiotics, and Fungi is used in various industrial processes.
