Traditional SS vs. This course
traditional uses rote memorization and the facts, this course is hands on activities and critical thinking.
learning styles: students vs teacher
students are visual learners most of the time and teacher are auditory learners most often. most teaching is auditory
Why is SS not often taught in NV?
we have put an emphasis on math and ELA so SS has been cut back.
Culture
Learned behaviors, traditions, beliefs and a way of life created by a group of humans
Ethnocentric
believing your culture is superior to others.
Primary sources
best sources, documents, letters, photographs, music
Secondary sources
still good sources, biographies, historical fiction.
where did history begin?
in Sumer, Mesopotamia, though indigenous argue with that due to oral histories and pictographs
why study history?
to learn from our mistakes to purposefully repeat the past to learn from what we did right to predict the future to remember to honor
why study Geography?
travel, science, history, culture, military, environment, etc.
Mercator map
stretches the north hemisphere and is most commonly found in classrooms
What is the most accurate map we have?
Robinson map, stretches the south pole and antarctica

should not be enforced such as forcing students to say the pledge. should be allowed to show it in your own way.
something unique about the articles of the constitution
a way to amend the articles was put in place from the beginning, knowing there would need to be a way, takes 3/4 of the states to make an amendment.
survival activity
group became a communist community, evenly distributed the food and looked out for one another.

the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others
