Statical Tests Flashcards
(8 cards)
When is the chi squared test used
When you are looking at frequencies and whether my observations differ from expected values.
When is the spearman’s rank correlation used
Whether there is a difference in means between two seperate/independent groups.
When is the student’s t-test/ unpaired t test used
Looking at whether there is a difference in the means between two separate/independent groups.
When is a Paired t test used
When there is a difference in means between two between the same group before and after a change.
What is the null hypothesis
It is the claim in scientific research that the effect being studied does not exist.
What is the alternative hypothesis
That the effect being studied does exist.
In a spearman’s rank test what do the values of r/s show
If it is +1 then it shows a perfect positive correlation
If it’s -1 it shows a perfect negative correlation
If its 0 then it shows no correlation
How do we reject or accept the null hypothesis using the spearman’s rank test
If the value of R/s is greater than the critical value we can reject the null hypothesis, whereas if it is less than the critical value we accept the null hypothesis.,
