How can we avoid dealing with increased error rates in multiple comparisons?
Work with ‘a priori’ analysis
If dealing with post-hoc multiple comparisons we have to have a significant F ratio first, how can we avoid this?
Work with ‘a priori’ analysis
What method do we use to adjust our p-value if doing post-hoc analysis?
Bonferroni Method
Tukey’s HSD, Dunnett’s Test, Duncan’s Test, and Scheffe Test are all examples of what?
Post-hoc analysis in SPSS
In ANOVA we manipulate IV’s and measure the DV. In ANCOVA we also measure…?
A covariate - a variable that potentially correlates with the DV
In what situation would we use ANCOVA?
ANCOVA is particularly useful in non-randomised experiments where we know scores are affected on the DV due to an additional variable other than the IV
What are the 3 steps to ANCOVA?
Calculate one-way ANOVA on the DV score
Calculate one-way ANOVA on the covariate score (e.g. pre-test)
Covariation is subtracted from the variation in scores on the DV
What is MANOVA and when do we use it?
Multivariate Analysis of Variance - when we have multiple DV’s
How does MANOVA work?
The group of DV’s are treated as a single composite variable for the purpose of analysis. MANOVA also provides the univariate effects for each DV separately.
