How does chlamydia present?
Asymptomatic in most cases
Mucus, pus, urethral discharge, dysuria (men), post sex bleeding (women)
Can get conjunctivitis in babies
How to test for chlamydia?
Urine sample for men
Vaginal swab for women
How is chlamydia treated?
Doxycycline or azithromycin
STI screen and bloods
Complications from chlamydia?
Reactive arthritis
pelvic inflammatory disease for women (ectopic pregnancy and infertility)
Epididymitis , prostatitis (men)
What is the causative organism for gonorrhoea plus gram description?
Neisseria gonorrhoea
Gram neg coccus bacteria
Transmission for gonorrhoea?
Sexual contact
Vaginal canal at birth to babies (conjunctivitis)
How does gonorrhoea present?
Men: urethral discharge
Women: asymptomatic but sometimes vaginal discharge
Both: rectal and oropharyngeal infection
How is gonorrhoea treated?
Ceftriaxone and azthromycin
