Parsons (functionalist)
there are 3 stages to socialisation —> primary, secondary, tertiary
the most important aspect of primary socialisation is value consensus as it helps keep a stabilised society
family helps socialise people into expected roles —> expressive and instrumental role and plays big part in transmitting particularistic norms & values
schooling is like a bridge between particularistic + ascribe status of the family & universal + achieved of education
Durkheim (functionalist)
agents of secondary socialisation such as education are microcosms of society—> society in miniature—> which prepare people into adult roles
Cooper (marxist)
learning roles = social structure of control playing part in brainwashing a child —> as behaviour is limited
