What is the study that we do to assess cervical factors?
A post coital exam
What is a post coital exam
Couple has sex 8-12 hours before exam, 1-2 days before ovulation. We then use a syringe to collect vaginal secretions.
What does a positive post coital exam mean, and what is the value for positive result?
> 5 motile sperm/HPF. A positive PCT means everything is normal
What other tests do we do for cervical factors?
Fern test and Spinnbirkit test (to check elasticity)
What is the most common treatment for cervical factor infertility, irrespective of cause?
IUI (Intrauterine insemination)
What is the process that sperm goes through before its insertion in IUI?
centrifugation, rinsed with saline, and centrifuged again
What is ART?
Surgically removing eggs, combining them with sperm in a lab dish, and then placing them back
Who can benefit from ART?
People with low sperm count, decline in egg quality, so on
