Subjective Meaures Flashcards
(12 cards)
Here is a question what are two subjective methods able to use to measure adherence?
Set report and clinical interview
What is a set report in the context of measuring adherence
This is where patients complete questionnaires explaining to what end they have been adhering to their treatment plan
What is one commonly used questionnaire and details about it?
The medication adherence report scale or the MARS IS A 10 ITEM QUESTIONNAIRE THAT USES A FORCED CHOICE FORMAT FOR YES, AND NO ANSWERS AND WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED TO MEASURE PATIENTS ADHERENCE TO MEDICATION FOR SCHIZOPHRENIA
Patients may also be given the booklet to record each time they take their medication
What is one strength of using a questionnaire in order to measure adherence
One strength of using a questionnaire is that they are cheap and quick to administer to a large number of participants. This will increase the ability to generalize any results to the target population. It is also easy to obtain quantitative data about attitudes to appearance which can be statistically analyzed
Name two weaknesses of using a self report or a questionnaire
They may lack because you are relying on one patient’s memory, and they may not recall their appearance pattern accurately
The validity can be an issue as the patient may give socially desire and answers. They may say they are following their treatment regimen when they are not one way to overcome this is to combine a center report with a biological treatment such as blood tests to see whether results were correlate with each other.
What is a clinical interview?
A clinical interview is a dialogue between patient and a clinician to help professional gain information which will help with the diagnosis and treatment of a disorder
Types of clinical interviews
Clinical interview can be structured on structured or semi-structured structured means all questions are premeditated semi structured means some questions are premeditated and structured means there are no premeditated questions
What type of questions are asked in a clinical interview
Both open ended and closed ended questions
Name one example of a clinic interview that is used to diagnose patients and details about it
MAM medical Adherence measure
Is a semi structured clinical interview designed to elect details and accurate response responses from patients about whether they had adhere to treatment. This can include questions about diet medication, and clinic attendance.
What is the focus of a clinical interview which helps it succeed
The professional date relationship so that patients feel comfortable enough to be honest about their appearance and focus on improvement of patient care. Therefore the focus is to support them rather than to punish them for non-appearance.
Name one strength of a clinical interview
Clinician interviews can provide detailed, direct quantitative and qualitative data, as well as reasons why a participant may not be adhering. This could provide a greater understanding of patience, and this will increase both validity and the usefulness of measures.
Name one weakness of a clinical interview
Is that in comparison with questionnaires which can be administered online? It is time-consuming and an expensive measure of gathering data. It is also more time-consuming for the patient who may have difficulties attending due to having to take time off work
