Summary of Experience Flashcards
(12 cards)
What assumptions did you make on the Overdale School demolition?
- unrestricted site access
- foundations assumed to be standard strip footings
- no contamination or archeological findings expected
(Design Economics and Cost Planning - Level 2)
How did you come up with the m2 rate for the Overdale School demolition?
- Utilising a combination of the 4 most similar past projects from BCIS and internal projects.
- adjusting for abnormals, time and location
(Design Economics and Cost Planning - Level 2)
How did you establish the cost for asbestos removal on Overdale School?
Asbestos removal costs taken from schools built around the same time worked on for NYCC.
Included as a risk highlighted within report as an R&D survey had not been undertaken.
(Design Economics and Cost Planning - Level 2)
What did you advise on HMP Holme House?
The client had various three options proposed to them by the design team.
I had to assess the project cost for each of these and included 3 different cost plans within my report, advising the client of overall cost implications, risks and opportunities with each of them.
(Design Economics and Cost Planning - Level 3)
What did you advise on the Complex Care Home?
The client preferred more loft space for storage and maintenance and the current steel/timber hybrid design did not allow for this.
The structural engineer advised that a full steel frame would however allow this, therefore the client asked me if it was financially viable.
After undertaken a cost analysis using BCIS, I found that the steel frame would come at a higher cost. However, I advised the additional floor of useable space meant that the cost per m2 was actually less than the timber frame alternative, therefore the client decided to proceed with this option on this basis.
(Design Economics and Cost Planning - Level 3)
How have you advised the MoJ on whole life costing on York Magistrates Court?
I advise these in conjunction with the clients design team.
Firstly I priced the like for like asphalt roof replacement option and a lead roof option.
Then after discussions with the design team I consider which elements of are to be replaced when and the annual costs of maintenance and operation.
This information is inputted into the MoJ’s LCC template.
This ultimately calculates NPC and LCC for each option which I am then able to advised as part of the cost report which accompanies the cost plan.
(Design Economics and Cost Planning - Level 3)
On Langton Primary School you advised the client to not enter into contract due to only a single tenderer returning, what did you advise on next steps to complete the works?
Works were procured via a framework so therefore I advised looking at an open tender approach in order to get a competitive tender.
(Procurement & Tendering - Level 3)
On the Roehampton Rise Housing project a tenderer had made an error and corrected their submission which put the cost up, if this tenderer stuck with their low rate what would you advise the client?
Could cause issues if they were to win the tender as they may seek to recover the cost post contract
(Procurement & Tendering - Level 2)
Why did you price asbestos as a worst case scenario on HMP Wakefield?
client request as they wanted the full impact including in regards to asbestos while and OB calculation was being produced as they wanted to secure funding early.
(Risk Management - Level 2)
How can provisional sums be used to manage risk?
If a risk is carried into construction, a provisional sum allowance may be included to allow the cost of it to be covered.
(Project Finance - Level 1)
What did you advise on HMP Styal Healthcare?
Pricing doc to be used - CSA as design was not fully developed.
(Quantification and costing - Level 3)
What did you advised on Millfield Primary school?
Correct figure to be paid via a pay less notice based on remeasure, photos and marked up drawings
