Q

What is a open system and example

A

A system that transfers both material and energy across its boundary’s to surrounding environments. e.g section of a coastline

Q

What is a closed system and example

A

A system that transfers energy, but not matter across it boundary’s to the surrounding environments. e.g Global water cycle

6
Q

What is positive feedback and example

A

When a change in the inputs brings about a greater change in the system. e.g temp rise leading to permafrost melting, to an increase in methane- leading to global temp rise

7
Q

What is negative feedback and example

A

When a change in inputs is balanced out and a new equilibrium is reached, the change is nuffilied. e.g rising co2 leads to more phot, decreasing co2

8
Q

What is a isolated system and example

A

These have no interactions with anything outside of the system boundary, there are no inputs or outputs. e.g controlled lab experiments.

9
Q

What are cascading systems

A

Transfer of mass and energy such that the output from one subsystem becomes the input for the adjacent sub system. e.g River sdeiment cascades into the coastal.
