Q

How does TH17 come about?

A

In response to extracellular bacteria, fungi. Cytokines produced: IL-17a, IL-17b, IL-22.
(IL-23 helps carry on/ boost production - costimulation)

Q

What are the cytokines produced by Thelper17 cells, and what do they do?

A

IL17 (a,b), IL22.

IL-17, pop to tissue cells and make chemokines molecules (eg recruit more innate cells like neutrophils to the site of infections

+ help produce anti-microbial peptides

IL-22: ‘barrier cytokine’ increases barrier function of epithelium
