why were the Hebertists considered a threat to the Committee?

- Execution of his own friend demonstrated that Robespierre was willing to stop at nothing in pursuit of political control
- Committee killed 2 of the most popular figures of the revolution + many found it difficult to believe that Danton was an enemy of the revolution
