How to explain the emergence of the ECC and the EU
- By emphasizing the role of member states
= the decades of european integrations did not change the idea of state - realists or Neo realists. –> states keep pursuing their national interests but in changed context
- By stressing the impact of supra-national institutions
= a gradual spillover process functionalism or Neo functionalism - more and more sectors got integrated to take advantage of the expertise of the EU
= inability of individual governments to deal with a growing number of transnational issues without close cooperation
why did attempts of long-term peace fail after WW1
- rise of nationalism
-main focus on peace treaties keeping Germany at bay instead of fostering cooperation
what changed after WW2
- changue of power structures and economies
= decolonization meant that they needed a new market to sell the. goods
