The sked is not a
spinal immobilization device
A backboard must be used on patients with injuries to the
shoulder area prior to placing patient into the Sked
Patient loading methods
Log Roll, Slide, spinal immobilization
Slide method:
Position foot end of sked at head of pt. Slide foot end of sked under the patient.
Horizontal Hoist Set up:
Use lift straps at head and foot end of the sked and bring under the sked and secure with carabiner
Vertical Hoist Set up:
Tie a figure 8 with a bight in the middle of the 30’ top. Pass thru grommets and tie a square knot. pass the ends of the rope after square knot thru the carrying handle and put another square knot with safety overhand knots
