Tell me about your teaching experience?

A

Formal qualification - masters (eivdence based teaching, foundation of learning and assessment)
Training ES/CS
Team in a variety of settings… particularly virtual, small group, bedside, lecture

Notable examples:
UG: Year 2 transfusion
PG: reg training days, workplace learning (role modelling, apprenticeship)
MDT: new haemostasis session, ECMO
Patient: New haemostasis session
Supervision/Mentoring

FEEDBACK IS GOOD, ASKED TO TEACH AGAIN

Leadership roles - organising reg training days (gained funding to address deficits)

Ethos - selfless, remove my own agenda, concentrate on where the learner is now and what we can achieve by the end of the session.
Not to underestimate - role modelling, emulation
Learn through teaching - greater insight in juniors, articulate a concept

A

Asked to stand in last minute to teach year 3 students about anticoagulation, set slide deck, pre exams
Asked academy to send module handbook - LO, assessment
Stopped after 15 mins - students bored, agitated
Discussed course - challenges, reviewed aims
Flip chart - clinical cases
Far more interactive
Troubleshooting of general haem queries.

Recognition of problem
Deal with in timely manner
