Teaching high and low frequency words

A

1) High/low frequency words
- low frequency words : draw Ss’ attetion not to the word meaning itself but to the word parts knowledge
- high frequency words : provides the Ss with word family and collocation information of the word ; provides information about the polysemous meaning of the word in various contexts

Lexical Approach

A

1) emphasizes multi-word units (collocation/ syntagmatic relation)
- grammatical collocation : go on a diet
- lexical collocation : healthy diet, unhealthy diet
2) encourage Ss to attend the paradigmatic relations of words
- ‘unhealthy’ can be replaceable for ‘poor’
3) develops Ss knowledge of polysemous use of a word

A

Corpus : a large collection of text ; 즉, 실제 언어 묶음
Conconrdance : 코퍼스에서 인덱스 붙여서 솎아낸 자료
Concordancing : concoordannce를 만들기 위한 indexing
Concordancer : conconrdancing을 활용한 액티비티/ 프로그램
Benefit : authentic samples, natural context, discourse patterns, discovery learning
