Flashcards in Teeth Deck (13):
WHAT ARE THE 2 SECTIONS OF THE TOOTH?
The crown (visible section),
and the root (in the gum).
A hard substance that protects the tooth.
Like bone, under enamel, not as hard as enamel.
In the centre of the tooth, contains blood vessels and nerves.
A layer around the root which holds the tooth in place in the jaw.
Hold the tooth in the bone.
The main cause of tooth decay is eating sugar.
Plaque is a mixture of bacteria, saliva and food particles which builds up on the teeth.
It is mostly found in hard to reach places, (In between teeth and close to the gumline).
Tartar is hardened plaque which wasn't removed. Stains the teeth.
WHAT HAPPENS IF PLAQUE IR TARTAR AREN'T REMOVED?
It produces acid which attack the enamel.
The enamel will eventually wear away, leaving just the dentine.
This is tooth decay.
A mineral put in public water to strengthen teeth.
HOW TO MAINTAIN HEALTHY TEETH AND GUMS?
Use dental floss after you brush your teeth.
Brush teeth twice to three times a day.
