To make negative space as important as the positive space for effective balance. And to decorate

When does contrast occur
When two element are at opposite ends ( top, bottom ;left, right; two diagonals )
What makes the focal point stand out

What is the first type of contrast
- Objects will stand out if they are in an area of bright again dark or, dark against light
What is the second type of contrast
A single object will stand out if placed separate from a group of the same object
What is the third type of contrast
A bright focal point against a dull background or a dull focal point against a bright background.
Emphasis
The focal point of the artwork.
What does emphasis do?
draws the viewers eyes to this when their eye first falls on the artwork

Both sides are equally balanced focal point in the middle
Asymmetrical balance
More weight on one side . Artist doesn’t only want you to see the focal point, but also background

Central focal point leading viewers eye outward to edges of artwork

An impression on the viewer. Eg large art work influences emotions
