Theories on Emotion
James Lange: suggested that is our arousal that produces the way we feel
Cannon-Bard: Believes there is a simultaneous arousal and cognitive interpretation. Believed these events are sent simultaneously to the neo-cortex.
Shachter-Singer: Believed that first there is an arousal and then there is a subsequent cognitive interpretation.
Lazarus: Believed everything was cognitive, how you think about the stimulus influences the emotion.
Basic Emotions
sadness, happiness, fear, anger, surprise, disgust (exhibited the same way in all cultures)
Facial Feedback Hypothesis
The notion that the muscles in our face send messages to our brain and our body about emotion.
Gender Differences in Emotions in ‘Murica
Males are more likely to express anger, females are more likely to express sadness.
Women are more emotionally in tune with relationships
Women experience emotions more intensely.
Women report greater happiness and greater life satisfaction.
