Memory
The persistence of learning over time through encoding, storage, and retrieving of information

Short Term Memory
“Working Memory”
Activated memory that holds a 7 item briefly before the information is stored or forgotten. (Remembered as long as you’re thinking about it)
Long Term Memory
The relatively permanent and limitless storehouse of the memory system. (Knowledge, skills, and experiences)
Retrieval Cue
Any stimulus linked to a specific memory.
Flashbulb Memory
A clear memory of an emotionally significant moment or event. (No retrieval cue)
Tip of the Tongue Memory
Retrieval cue needed to trigger your mind to remember something
Context Dependent Memory
What senses you were in while making the memory
State Dependent Memory
The mental state that you’re in while making the memory
Recall
Memory demonstrated by retrieving information learned earlier
Recognition
Memory demonstrated by identifying items previously learned
Relearning
Memory demonstrated by time saved when learning material a second time
Thinking
Changing and reorganizing the information that is stored in memory to create new information
