Some sites are big and obvious-historic buildings that are visible e.g old church or a castle. Aerial photographs may reveal ancient structures not visible at ground level e.g. ring forts,hill forts. Research archaeology using old documents/maps to see the buildings or structures that once exited on the sight. Rescue archaeology carrying out a dig before a building or road is built to ensure no artefacts are lost/destroyed. They can also be found by accident e.g. farmer working on field
