The arm Flashcards
(31 cards)
What can be used to identify the anterior view of the humerus?
The capitulum - ball shaped at the bottom
What does the capitulum articulate with?
Head of the radius
What does the trochlea articulate with?
The notch of the ulna
Where does the radial nerve cross the humerus?
Crosses in the spinal groove to the anterior side (radial groove)
Where does the ulnar nerve lie?
Distal humerus, posterior to the medial epicondyle
Can be called the funny bone
Which muscle inserts onto the deltoid tuberosity?
The deltoid
Which muscles insert onto the intertubercular groove?
Pectoralis major, terres major and the lattisumus dorsi
Which muscles attach to the greater tubercle?
Infraspinatous, teres minor and the supraspinatous
Which muscle inserts on to the lesser tubercle?
The subscapularis
What are the three muscles in the flexor compartment of the arm?
Biceps brachii
Brachialis
Corachobrachialis
How many heads does the biceps brachii have?
2
Where does the long head of the biceps brachii originate and insert?
Arises from the supraglenoid tubercle and inserts onto the radial tuberisity
Where does the short head of the biceps brachii originate and insert?
Arises from the corocoid process and inserts onto the biceptal apneurosis on the medial part of the forearm
What are the actions of the biceps brachii?
Act to flex the elbow and flex and adduct the shoulder
Where is the brachialis?
Deeper than the brachii
Arises from the surface of the humerus and inserts onto the ulnar
What is the corachobrachialis?
Deep muscle which arises from the coracoid process and inserts onto the medial humerus
It adducts the humerus
Which nerve supplies the flexor compartment?
The muscolocutaneous nerve
Which artery supplies the flexor compartment?
The brachial artery
What are the borders of the cubital fossa?
Lateral = brachioradialis Medial = pronator teres Superior = Imaginary line between the epicondyles of the humerus
What are the contents of the cubital fossa?
Radial nerve
Brachail tendon
Brachial artery
Median nerve
What does the brachial artery bifurcate into?
The radial and ulnar arteries
What is a common site for venepuncture?
The medial cubital vein
Located superficially within the cubital fossa
What are the muscles of the extensor compartement?
The triceps brachii - have 3 heads
Long, medial and lateral
Which nerve supplies the extensor compartment?
The radial nerve
