The Heart Flashcards
(39 cards)
What is the pulmonary circuit
RA to RV out the pulmonary artery into the lungs
What is the systemic corrupt
Left atrium to right ventricle out the aorta and into the whole body
Where is the tricuspid valve found?
Right ventricle allows blood flow from right atrium
Where is the bicuspid valve?
Left ventricle, allows blood from left atrium
where is the SA node?
right atrium
What are AV valves?
Bicuspid and tricuspid
Prevent back flow of blood abck into the atrium
What are semi lunar valves?
Prevent back flow of blood back into ventricle.
Pulmonary trunk valve?
Aortic valve?
what is the SA node?
the initiator for atrial contracttions.
what is the AV node?
located above the tricupsid valve.
it helps stimulate ventricle contractions
what are bundle branches?
branches off the nodes that help contraction proces sby sending singals tpt he fibers
What are the purkinje fibers?
set of nerves that conduct impulses
what is a cardiac cycle?
The process that occurs during 1 heartbeat
what cuases the double hesrtbeat sound lub dub?
lub: SA node
dub: AV node
What does medulla oblongta mean?
its apart of the brainstem responsible for thign slike breathing, blood prssure etc.
what is systolic pressure?
force of blood being pushed out of the heart
contractions
what is diastolic pressure?
when the heart is being refilled
relaxation
what unit is blood pressure measured in?
millimetres of mercury
(mmhg)
what is blood pressure?
the force of blood against vessel walls
what is a normal blood pressure reading?
120/80
what is hypertention?
- when blood pressure is to high
- heart is wokring too hard
- could cause heart attacks etc.
what are some cuases of hypertention?
- ## to much salt in diet causes body to retain water=more blood
what is arteroslcerosis
- plaque build up in the aorta
- loss of elasticity in arterioles
artery description
- elastic, lead away fromt he body
- change size to regulate blood flow
- thick
vein description
- 3 layers
- thin
- valves
