The Kidney and Cell Lines Flashcards

1
Q

MDCK

A

This is a model cell line and stands for Madin Darby Canine Kidney Cell Line. It is derived from the distal tubule of the dog kidney nephron.

Q

primary proximal tubule cultures

A

These are in vivo studies and the cultures are derived from the kidneys of a New Zealand rabbit. The cultures are from the proximal part of the rabbit kidney nephron.

Q

DBr3

A

These cells are cAMP deficient cells. In comparison to MDCK cells, these cells have reduced Na/K ATPase biosynthesis in response to PGE1. However they have retained PGE1 responsiveness on cell growth. The regulation is post-transcriptional.

Q

PGE1 Ind

A

These cells are variant MDCK cells that have lost the growth responsiveness to PGE1 but not the responsiveness of PGE1 on Na/K ATPase biosynthesis as compared to MDCK. They have very high levels of cAMP. The regulation is post-transcriptional.
