What is the nervous system?
A network of cells and internal communication system.
What is the function of the nervous system?
To collect process and respond to information in the environment and control organs and cells.
What are the two main components of the Nervous system?
Central nervous system
Peripheral Nervous system
What does the Central Nervous system include?
The brain and spinal chord
Outline one feature of the brain.
Receives and processes information from the senses.
Outline one feature of the Spinal Chord.
Control reflex actions
What does the peripheral nervous system do in general?
Sends messages to and from the central nervous system via neurons.
What is a feature of the automatic nervous system?
responsible for involuntary movement of vital functions.
What is a feature of the somatic nervous system?
responsible for voluntary movement
What are the two componants of the automatic nervous system?
sympathetic and parasympathetic branch.
What is the sympathetic branch responsible for?
Fight or flight responce
What is the parasympathetic branch responsible for?
Conserve and restore energy when relaxed.
