16
Q

Name 3 characteristics of Alkali Metals

A

Good conductors of electricity
Good conductors of heat
They have lower melting points than other metals

17
Q

Name 3 chemical properties of Group 1

A

Very reactive
Have exciting reactions with water
The reactions make hydrogen gas

18
Q

What is Group 7 of the periodic table called

19
Q

What is Chlorine used for, what is its state of matter and what colour is it

A

It’s is used for sterilising water
It’s green
It’s a gas

20
Q

What is Bromine used for, what is its state of matter and what colour is it

A

It is used for making pesticides and plastics
It’s orange
It’s a liquid

21
Q

What is iodine used for, what is its state of matter and what colour is it

A

It’s used for sterilising water
It’s grey
It’s a solid

22
Q

What is displacement

A

When a more reactive element comes into contact with a less reactive element. The less reactive element would be displaced

23
Q

What is Group 0 or 8 of the periodic table called

A

The Noble Gases

24
Q

How reactive are Group 0 or 8

A

Unreactive, they are inert

25
What happens when you pass a current through a noble gas
It will illuminate
26
Explain how the properties group 0 elements make them useful for oxygen canisters?
Oxygen canisters cannot be 100% oxygen, so as the noble gases are inert they are safe to use. Nitrogen can’t be used because it becomes toxic at high pressure.
