Q

What is a tendon and what does it do?

A

A fibrous cord made up of collagen (a structural protein) that connects muscle to find.
It helps to absorb forces within the skeletal muscle and transfer these forces to bone to generate movement

Q

What are ligaments? What is their purpose?

A

They are a fibrous band that primarily connects bone to bone.
By connecting bone to bone they help form a joint and keep that joint stabilised and supported during motion, preventing excessive joint articulations

Q

What is connective tissue? What is it’s uses?

A

Tissue found all around the body that links body parts and other tissues (such as skin and muscle) together.
It also supports, protects and insulates and transports blood

Q

Describe what a fibrous joint is and an example

A

These are immovable joints, there is no movement between bones of fibrous joints. An example would be the joints that hold together the kill.

Q

Describe cartilaginous joints and what is an example of one?

A

These joints allow for the connection of bones. Connection is entirely by cartilage. These joints allow for some degree of movement, more than fibrous joints but less than synovial joints. An example of this type of joint is the intervertebral discs of the spine

Q

What are synovial joints and what is an example?
