Thrombosis Flashcards
(6 cards)
Name the natural anticoagulants
Protein C, S
Antithrombin III - blocks 10, 2, 7 , 9 , 11, 12
What Lupus Anticoagulant
Prothrombotic in vivo - interact w phospholipids to enhance platelet adhesion, aggregation
Prolongs PTT
Thrombus in Arteries vs Veins
Type
Cause
Complications
Arteries
- white thrombus - platelet rich
Veins
- red thrombus - fibrin w RBC
Causes: Rupture of atherosclerosis vs Stasis
Cx: MI, Stroke vs DVT, PE
Whats Virchow’s Triad
Endothelial Damage
Stasis
Hypercoagulability
Tests for VTE [2]
D-Dimer - elevated in many problems hence sensitive but not specific
- if negative - high true dont have VTE
- if positive - low specificity for VTE specifically
Compression Doppler Test
- if have clot, veins less collapse
Steps for Investigations for PE
Check pre-test probability cos NPV of DDimer is inverse to prevalence;
- DDimer negative may be flawed if prevalence is high
- Wells criteria
if likely, prevalence is high, NPV is low - go for Scan
- V/P(Q) Scan
- CT Pulmonary Angiogram
