Topic 5 Flashcards
(17 cards)
Positive Punishment
Add something aversive- Behaviour decreases
A child touches a hot stove (behaviour), and the pain (stimulus) decreases the likelihood of touching it again.
Negative Punishment
Remove something desirable- Behaviour decreases
Come home past curfew, ur parents take your phone. You are less likely to stay out past curfew knowing you will get your phone taken away
Premack Principle
Low prob behaviours can punish high prob behaviours
Ex. If you enjoyed drinking coffee, but everytime you drank coffee you had to read a book. You are less likely to be drinking that coffee.
Contingency
“a future event”
Stronger linkage = faster learning
Contiguity
“being in direct contact of something”
Immediate punishment = better learining
Intensity
higher intensity punishment = greater behaviour suppression
Overcorrection
effortful behaviour to correct damage
Contigent Excercise
Excercise unrelated to behaviour
Guided Compliance
Physically guide to comply
Physical Restraint
Hold body still
Response Blocking
Stop behaviour physically
Timeout
Loss of positive reinforcement
Response cost
Loss of reinforcer
Negative reinforcement
Increasing a behaviour by removing something aversive
Reinforcement
to increase a behaviour
Escape Learning
You do something to escape an unpleasent stimulus that is already happening
Avoidance learning
You do something to avoid an unpleasent stimulus before it happens
