Q

why did trade unions grow in popularity from 1750?

A
  1. emerging factory system created increased demand for workers (gave them a sense of value to their employers because they could see the importance of them to the profit)
  2. expansion of the factory system was one result of reluctance of the government to interfere in the way entrepreneurs and business owners managed their businesses
these are significant as they encouraged the expanding working class to combine in their own interests, leading to the formation of new organisations to offer support
