Why does increasing temperature increase the rate of diffusion and osmosis?
Particles have more kinetic energy so move faster

What is active transport?
movement of particles from low concentration to high concentration using ATP
What is diffusion?
The movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
What is osmosis?
Diffusion of water from high to low water potential across a semi-permeable membrane.
Name three factors that increase the rate of diffusion
increased surface area
decreased distance (or volume)
increased concentration gradient
Why does water leave cells?
Water potential is higher in the cytoplasm than in the surroundings
Why does water enter cells?
Water potential is higher outside the cell than inside the cytoplasm
