A
- Using a combination of research methods to check the validity of research findings
- E.g. Using an observation and then checking the validity through a questionnaire
- E.g. Ofsted, poverty research

- Combination of research methods to build a more detailed picture of what is being studied
- Involves the use of all types of research methods (Primary and secondary data)

- Often use methodological pluralism to build a richer picture of a person, situation or institution

- Involves the researcher inserting themselves into the natural setting of the group being studied and observing their normal activties
- Purpose is to describe a culture as close as possible to the way that they see themselves
