tropical storms Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
where do tropical storms happen
A
they form over warm water between 5degreeds and 15degrees north and south of the equator
2
Q
How do tropical storms form
A
- warm water (above27degrees) evaporates from the earths surface
2.as it rises, the warm moist air cools and condenses to form towering thunderstorm clouds
3.the coriolis effect and trade winds make the storm being to spin
4.over a period of days, evaporation adds more heat energy to the storm system - a tropical storm is formed
winds blow the tropical storm across the ocean, continuing to pick up more heat energy as it moves. once it hits land its source of energy (warm water) is lost, so it begins to die out
3
Q
will climate change affect tropical storms
A
climate change is warming the ocean, it is unclear whether tropical storms will become more frequent due to this however we know tropical storms will have a stronger intensity. it may also change their distribution making more parts of the world more prone to tropical storms
