Obstructive: obstruction to flow through ventricular system

Communicating: failure of absorption by arachnoid villi

What is the treatment for hydrocephalus?

A

Gold standard:
Ventriculo-peritoneal shunt (V-P )
Or ventriculo-arterial shunt (V-A)

Neuroendoscopic 3rd ventriculostomy
hole made in floor of 3rd ventricle for obstructive hydrocephalus

1st line: coiling
- A coil is inserted into the bulge and filled to strengthen the vessel wall

Clipping involves a craniotomy so less used
