what are groups
groups help us find connections and belonging. they can be formal or informal
what are the different types of groups ?
family and friendship, sporting and leisure, study and work, religious, cultural, and other specific groups
what are family and friendship groups
may be immediate or extended and may change over time. based on ancestry, marriage, or adoption. generally spend a great deal of time together. friendship groups are by choice.
what are sporting and leisure groups
provides fun and interactive ways for members to get healthy and address personal wellbeing. often rely on motivation to continue the activity. may be age specific.
what are examples of study and work groups
e.g. high school, TAFE, uni. consists of classmates and teachers. has formal and informal elements
how are members in study and work groups connected ?
in academic or active work, their satisfaction and wellbeing is heightened.
what are religious groups
exists in all communities, and has a belief in a higher power. may be practiced in and out of home.
what are cultural groups
ethnicity/nationality, beliefs/religion, geographical location, family morals and beliefs, customs and values. often passed down generations. share social and cultural characteristics. more dynamic due to populations of varying cultures.
what are ‘other specific groups’?
other specific groups occur when people share similar beliefs, interests goals or values.
