Types of training Flashcards
(14 cards)
Circuit Training
A series of exercises performed one after another with a rest in between
Continuous Training
Exercising for a sustained period without rest
Fartlek Training
Changes in speed, incline and terrain to change in intensity
Interval training
Periods of work followed by periods of rest
Static Stretching Training
Stretching to the limit and holding it isometrically
Weight Training
Use of free weights, resistance machines or any object that can be safely lifted
Plyometrics Training
High intensity exercise involving explosive movements (Power)
Advantages of circuit training
- Can train a variety of fitness components
- Each station can be a different fitness component
- Large groups can train at same time
Disadvantages of circuit training
- Large space & equipment required
- Technique is affected when fatigue kicks in
Advantages of continuous training
- No equipment needed
- Improves aerobic fitness
- Simple
Disadvantages of continuous training
- Can be boring
- Injury risk due to repetitive actions
- Time consuming
Advantages of fartlek training
- No equipment needed
- Trains a range of fitness components
- Aerobic and Anaerobic systems can be trained
Disadvantages of fartlek training
- Terrain needs to be suitable to run on
- Hard work
Advantages of interval training
- ## No equipment needed
