  1. sensorimotor = (birth-2)= infants learn about environment and develop schemas by using their senses

2.pre-operational= (2-7)= use symbolic behaviour, drawings, pretend play but cannot think logically yet

3.concrete operations= (7-11)= use logic to understand things

4.formal operations=(11-18)= abstract thoughts, problem solving
